1. How do I clear the RAM on my Lloyd Instruments' test machine?

This depends upon which type of machine you are using.

Clearing the RAM on EZ or PLus Series Test Machines

If you are using an EZ or Plus Series test machine, the following procedure should be followed.

  • Switch on machine
  • While the Lloyd Instruments' identification screen appears in the LCD display, press the soft key on the far right located under the display.
  • A message will be displayed to confirm that the RAM needs to be cleared.
  • Select 'YES'.

Clearing the RAM on other Lloyd Instruments Machine Models

If you are using any other model test machine, the following procedure should be followed.

  • Switch off machine.
  • Disconnect the loadcell.
  • Switch on machine.
  • Wait for 30 seconds.
  • Switch off machine again.
  • Reconnect loadcell.
  • Switch on machine.
  • Re-enter original machine settings.

Please note that this procedure will clear the working memory of the test machine so any saved test setups will be lost. If possible, make a note of the test parameters before clearing the RAM.

2. My computer uses Windows® NT / XP / 2000. What software can I use to control my Lloyd Instruments test machine?

Lloyd Instruments' materials testing software packages NEXYGEN™ MT and Ondio™ are designed to run on Windows NT / XP /2000. All current Lloyd Instruments' materials testing machines can use NEXYGEN/Ondio software

Older model test machines will require either the latest EPROMs or modification. Models include: EZ or Plus Series machines eg LRXPlus or EZ50 with embedded V3.1 Issue 9 or later, LR Series machines fitted with EPROMs Version V7.5 or later, LRX/LF500/TA500 machines fitted with EPROMs Version V2.11 or later and Chatillon® TCD test frames.

It is not possible to use NEXYGEN MT software with any other Series of Lloyd Instruments' test machines.

3. What modifications are required to use NEXYGEN™ MT software with my Lloyd Instruments' test machine?

The modifications are listed below according to machine type.

Please note that when your test machine is switched on, the EPROM version will be displayed on the identification screen, which appears on the machine's LCD display. This information will help you establish if later version EPROMs are required.

LF500 / TA500 and LRX Series Machines

Requires EPROM V2.11 or later. If required, purchase new EPROMs (Part No. 40/0359) to run NEXYGEN MT software.

LR Series Machines

  • LR MK1 Test Machine with EPROM Version 4.5x

Purchase upgrade kit (Part No. 01/2821)

  • LR MK1A Test Machine with EPROM Version 5.x

Purchase upgrade kit (Part No. 01/2822)

  • LR MK2/3 LR MK4 Test Machines

EPROMs need to be V7.5 or later. For machines with EPROMs V 6.0 to V7.4, purchase new EPROMs (Part No. 40/0448) if required.

EZ Series Machines

Requires EPROM Version 2.1 Issue 6 or later. Arrangements can be made with your local service engineer or distributor to flash upgrade your system if required. For more information, please Contact Us.

Plus Series Machines

Requires EPROM Version 2.1 Issue 6 or later. Arrangements can be made with your local service engineer or distributor to flash upgrade your system if required. For more information, please Contact Us.

4. What computer do I need to use to run NEXYGEN™ MT software?

Recommended computer system requirements*

  • 400 MHz Pentium II Processor
  • 128MB RAM
  • More memory may be required for some tests of very long duration, or if using video capture
  • 1 Free COM Port, with a 16550 UART
  • CDROM for installation

*This constitutes a minimum requirement when used with a Lloyd Instruments' EZ or Plus Series test machine

Minimum computer system requirements*

  • Pentium Processor, at least 166MHz
  • 64MB RAM
  • 1 Free COM Port, with a 16550 UART
  • CDROM for installation

*A PC using Windows® 98 or later will need a higher specification (faster processor and more memory) to achieve the same level of performance as a PC using Windows 95. The same consideration applies if using Windows XP or Windows 2000. Users of Windows ME will need a higher specification than users of Windows 98.

Operating systems

  • Windows 95 or later is sufficient if using basic NEXYGEN™ MT software functions
  • Windows NT4, 2000 or XP is required to use Security and Audit Trail features
  • If using video capture functionality, Windows 98, ME, 2000 or XP is required

Other software

  • The 'Batch Report' feature requires Microsoft® Word Version 7, or later
  • The default Security and Audit Trail database, if used, requires Microsoft Access 2000 to administer.
  • The NEXYGEN™ MT standard test library* includes the following standard tests
    • tension pull to limit
    • tension pull to break
    • compress to limit
    • compress to break
    • cycling
    • creep testing (constant load)
    • relaxation tests
    • foam tests etc

*Please note that the action of these standard tests cannot be altered, e.g. a foam test will always precondition the sample by compressing it twice. It cannot, for instance, be preconditioned three times. If a different test action or specialised results are required, then the Ondio™ advanced test program must be used to allow the complete test to be specified by the user. Please note that Ondio will only operate with NEXYGEN MT V2.0 or later.

5. My test machine has power, but the LCD display is blank or is displaying a series of strange characters. What should I do?

The internal software may have become corrupted and will need resetting by clearing the RAM to clear the working memory and reset to default values. (Please refer to the FAQ above 'How do I clear the RAM on my Lloyd Instruments' test machine?)
